VE Day Celebrations!

With the week only being four days long, the children returned after the Bank Holiday with lots of energy and enthusiasm. This coincided with an upturn in the weather with it being brighter and warmer. Thankfully, the children enjoyed having their class photographs taken in the sunshine, so we hope families will enjoy purchasing them from the Kittle company.

The week was really geared towards our VE day celebrations which saw the PTFA and staff dressing up in 1940s attire and joining the children from both schools, who had come together on the Junior school playing field to have a street-party picnic before playing some traditional games with one another. Behaviour was extremely good where I watched siblings merging, older children entertaining younger children and games being led and explained by staff before our eldest pupils took over. It was a fantastic occasion.

In the afternoon, the Junior and Infant Leaders went to the village memorial to attend a service with the Church, the Parish Council and the Royal British Legion. It was another emotive occasion, where members of the public and former servicemen and women attended also. The children read poems and a story about VE day clearly and were complimented on their attitude and behaviour at the event. Well done everyone!

Next week, we will be continuing to prepare the Year 1 and some Year 2 children for their Phonics Screening Check as that assessment edges ever closer.  Hopefully, the nice weather will remain.
