Story Time!

Travelling Yarnsmith visits to tell tales for National Storytelling Week

It has been another hectic week in school, but that is how we like it. I have had continued to visit classes to see how the children are being taught and engaging with their learning. It was Reception on this occasion, who were learning about meerkats and their environment. There was some fantastic recall of prior knowledge and the children showed their understanding of some very complicated vocabulary. It was enjoyable to see the children taking part in Drawing Club, which is a strategy to stimulate their imagination and develop their desire to write and mark make. The novel Meerkat Mail also gave them the encouragement to write postcards from the meerkat's point of view (see above). Well done Reception.

We were visited by the NHS Team to check Reception's height, weight, vision and hearing on Thursday. These are so vitally important to ensure children remain as healthy as possible and these do assist parents in picking up on anomalies early, which can then be followed up with specialists further, if needed. Dentists will be visiting next week, to complete the set of checks.

To commemorate National Storytelling Week on Friday, we were privileged to have a travelling yarnsmith, Dave Tonge, tell tales and stories to the children. The children enjoyed them immensely, especially when props and actions were used to exaggerate what was being said. Watch out for the sheepskin!

Next week, we have Safer Internet Day on Tuesday, we have the Dentists in on Wednesday and on Friday, children will need PE kits on for another Virtual Competition in Ultimate Frisbee with Premier Sports. It will then be half-term.

Have a lovely weekend everyone!
