A Testing Time!

Phonics Check and Non-Statutory SATs completed for Years 1 and 2

This week has simply flown by and I have to say Friday could not have arrived soon enough as it has provided a clear diary day to enable everyone to catch their breath. The weather has also been a bit hit and miss with lots of downpours, but at least the newly planted flowers get a good watering.

The children in Years 1 and 2 have been busily completing their Phonics Screening Check and the non-statutory options KS1 SATs. I am very pleased to be told the children have done well in Year 1 regarding their Phonics and we await to see how this looks overall and, how many children just missed out this time around and will need to have another go next year. The optional KS1 SATs were completed also and although schools do not have to do them, they are an informative tool for teaching staff to identify gaps in learning which they can incorporate into their planning in the remaining weeks ahead of the children moving over into Year 3 and a new Key Stage. I am sure they have all done their best.

On Wednesday, the Reception staff and I had the pleasure of welcoming our new Reception parents and some of their children to our open evening ahead of September. I do like promoting all that is good about our school and setting out how we like to work with our families across the year to better support the children. There was some fantastic support, as always, from Norfolk Family Hubs, Schools and Communities Team, Norse and, of course our SENDCo, class and admin team.

The additional transition sessions for some of our children with SEND have been well received and these moments are wonderful at helping the children moving to Juniors adapt and settle a little more easily ahead of the switch. They certainly enjoyed our NEST space.

Next week, is our Cross-Phase week where Infants and Junior pair up to undertake a subject focus. This year, we are doing Geo-Caching.

Have a relaxing weekend everyone!
